Volunteering

Volunteering/Mentoring: About

Volunteering/Mentoring

Since May 2012 (Multiple volunteer experiences)

Airdrie Food Bank

On multiple occasions I have volunteered at the local food bank to complete different tasks such as, sorting food, packaging potatoes, making cow's bread and mop/cleaning their food storage facility. I really enjoy volunteering at the Airdrie Food Bank because it's organized by wonderful people and it's nice to know that I'm helping out my neighbours!

Since April 2015 (5 volunteer experiences)

Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre Society

At the DI Centre I have contributed as a food distributer and a sandwich builder/packager. The five times I've had the opportunity to volunteer at the centre I do consider very valuable because of the harsh reality I was opened up to, but also because of the kind clients I had the ability to converse with! So many people have had great misfortunes and it's nice to know that I was able to put a smile on some of their faces when I served them their meals.

Since October 2016 - Present

W.H Croxford High School

As an active member within my schools community I have score kept games, set up events and stayed after hours to help others! Being a member of the leadership program at W.H Croxford has provided me with a ton of awesome opportunities! Whether it was volunteering or attending a leadership conference I've gained beneficial skills and treasurable memories!

2017 & 2019

Big Brothers Big Sisters

I love to work with youth and my peers! As a mentor I've had a great experience as a positive role model for my Little, making crafts, baking, playing games, etc! Not only was this time beneficial for my Little, but I also learned a lot as a mentor and had tons of fun!

January 2017 - Febuary 2017

Wee-Read

Another mentoring experience I've been able to do! I got to work with two struggling, elementary school readers to help them develop skills in reading and writing. I had a lot of fun reading stories, getting to know them and completing their daily logs with them!

June 11th 2017 & February 10th 2018

Inn from the Cold

The two times I've been able to volunteer was much like the DI Centre, I was able to serve food and help out in the kitchen. Inn from the Cold is a homeless shelter for families and it was heartbreaking but heartwarming to be able to serve food to these people that just need a little support to get back on their feet.

Soap for Hope

This small little facility in Airdrie, Alberta has a huge impact on an international scale. I had the chance to volunteer with some close friends and it was such a unique and fun experience! We got to complete a variety of tasks such as sorting shampoo bottles, emptying bottles of product and cleaning shelves.

October 2018 - February 2019

Our Buddy

To avoid using his name I'm referring to this individual as our buddy. During my free time during Semester one at W.H Croxford, I spent time with our buddy. Our buddy has ASD which impairs his verbal communication and ability to interact socially. My time with our buddy includes helping him learn sign language, playing games and exploring Croxford!
