My Involvement: Features

Assembly MC

Remembrance Day

For our 2016 Remembrance Day Ceremony, I was one of two MCs chosen to speak during the Ceremony. At the time it was definitely out of my comfort zone and would've been the biggest crowd I talked to. The experience boosted my confidence and is one of the reasons why I'm more comfortable with public speaking.

Croxfords Houses

Events and Points

At W.H. Croxford we have four houses each with staff representatives and unique colour. The four houses are Courage (Purple), Ardor (Green), Valour (Red), and Spirit (Yellow), which spells CAVS. Each student is in one of the houses based on their connect teachers house. These houses encourage students to participate in school-related activities in order to gain house points. I've helped plan events and assemblies that promote the CAVS houses and have helped keep track of points.

Spirit Weeks/Days

Valentines Week, Halloween Week, Christmas Week, etc.

Especially in grade 9, I've been very involved with spirit weeks and days! Throughout the year we have plenty of these events which include dressing up or lunchtime activities. Spirit days are also a great way of earning points for your House! My involvement with spirit days includes planning activities and dress up days over a five day period. I also was very involved with advertising and creating the posters. I love going all out on spirit days and I consider myself a role model in that aspect!

Pep rallies

Activities, Schedule and Script

At our school, pep rallies usually consist of a House Point Competition, Recognition of Sports Teams, Awards and a presentation by Student Leadership. For a couple of Croxford's pep rallies I've helped plan out the assembly schedule, write the scripts for our MCs and brainstorm the activities we play. I've also had a big role in little jobs such as demonstrating, distributing candy, organizing seating, setup, and clean up!

Clothing/Food Drives

February Food Drive & Calgary Drop-In Centre

Croxford's food and clothing drives usually span over a month where students and staff are encouraged to bring in donations. I've helped organize one of our February Food Drives and one Clothing Drive for the Calgary Drop-In Centre. A big role I had for planning these events was advertising, which included social media posts, posting on Croxdord's TVs and creating posters. Organizing these events also included collecting the food/clothes and delivering them to the food bank and drop-in center.

Movement for Mental Health

MMH Executive (2019) and Safety Czar (2018)

W.H. Croxford's Movement for Mental Health is a 24-hour fundraiser where groups of students participate in physical activity to raise money and awareness for issues relating to mental health. For MMH 2018 I was the Safety Czar. This role included contacting and cooperating with safety officials to develop safety plans and ensure the success of the event. For MMH 2019 I was apart of the Executive Team. This role included overseeing all planning groups within MMH, organizing the event, making major decisions, cooperating with sponsors and keeping track of MMH documents. Over the past two years, MMH has raised over $51,000 for local mental health initiatives!

2019-2020 First Month Plan

Executive

With a continually growing leadership class that has gone through many changes over the past couple of years, my role as a Senior in this class has become more and more important. Since I've been in this class for four years now, I have a lot of experience running and planning events. For the first month of Leadership in 2019-2020, a group of grade 12 students and I are planning what those first classes are going to be structured like. This will set the pace for the rest of the year to hopefully grow and improve our program.
